The Design Process

The design of the building had a number of aspects and we worked with the engineers, quantity surveys, the HSE and the fire officer to integrate all requirements into the design. The front foyer/reception area was the focal point of the design and the building radiated from the octagon. With a light well in the centre of the roof the foyer area was an inviting and space area and give the wow factor.

The Works

From the outset we set out to provide a bright kitchen space that would open up to the garden, would work with the shape of the garden and bring a little of the garden into the house. We suggested to restore the existing, knock the lean to and build a new modern extension with a distinctive divide between the two. The curved profile and shape of the building and roof gives it a very dramatic and modern feel, the flat roof then divides the extension from the renovated Victorian house. The courtyard, with the help of large amounts glazing, allowed light to spill into all areas of the kitchen/dining and giving that inside outside feel. The project is due for completion in May 2009 and is on budget.
